ABOUT ME

I'm a story-teller by nature, having spent more than 20 years in documentary media creating award-winning films about health, mental health, trauma, and environmental justice. I have always used  principles in this work of empathic curiosity and psychoanalytic concepts to understand people's personal histories and experiences on a deep level.  Working with people in private

one-on-one sessions is an extension of this very gratifying and privileged work.

In addition to my degrees in psychology and media/cultural studies, I've been studying and practicing counselling (in supervision with psychologists and psychiatrists) since 2015. I'm a recent graduate of the Advanced Training Program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ATPPP) at the Toronto Institute for Psychoanalysis, and I have APA-approved certificates in the fundamentals of working with trauma and self-destructive behaviour.

Through careful listening, I help you understand your mind and life challenges which may include depression, grief, stress, anxiety, a sense of "stuckness", challenging relationships and/or disabling patterns of behaviour. I pay attention to your story and help you put together new ways of understanding that story that can lead to healing and making better life choices that make sense for you and you alone.

GETTING HELP

You may require short-term problem-solving and support, or a longer-term psychodynamic exploration of motives and behaviour.  I offer an interdisciplinary approach.

Curious to learn more?  Call me and we can discuss your needs and what to expect in a first session.  Contact information at the top and bottom of this site.

I have access to a community of psychotherapy and psychiatric professionals, and can help you navigate the larger system of services in Toronto and Ontario should you need it.

I am pre-certified so rates are very reasonable in lieu of not having guaranteed insurable services.

My practice is particularly valuable to those who have limited resources -   including artists, cultural workers, students, retirees, and contract workers.

**Couples counselling is possible and would be done in supervision.
